How to Apply Gel Nail Polish (Step-by-Step)

  1. Remove Old Polish:
     If you already have nail polish on, it should be removed entirely before starting. This helps the gel adhere smoothly and last longer.

  2. Trim and Shape Nails:
     Your nails are trimmed and filed into your preferred shape. Choose your favourite style: square, round, or almond before application.

  3. Clean and Prepare Cuticles:
     Wash your hands thoroughly. The nail technician will gently push back and buff your cuticles to create a clean surface.

  4. Apply Primer and Base Coat:
     A nail primer, such as OPI Bond Aid, is used to balance the pH of your natural nails for better adhesion. Then, a bonding base coat is applied to protect your nails and prepare them for color.

  5. Cure Under LED Light:
     Each layer is cured under an LED lamp to strengthen and set the gel properly.

  6. Apply Gel Color and Topcoat:
     Several coats of gel polish are applied, with each layer cured after application. A topcoat is applied for added shine and protection, followed by a final curing process.

Finish and Clean:


The nails are wiped with an alcohol solution to remove any sticky residue. Some salons also include a relaxing hand and wrist massage to complete the service.
